The music of French tag Beko Disques, most widely known as a purveyor of classy, weekly electronic secretes, has already graced these digital content several days, as evidenced by these parts concerning the Bilinda Butchers and Mooncreatures, amongst others. The label reveals no signs and symptoms of reducing, plus 2021 continues to make high quality studies into the dreamier areas of post-punk, largely at intersections of faraway ambient and fairly instant pop music. Coincidentally an apt outline in the new production from unique Zealand’s mysterious Lowlands. Coming in the wake of some other shorter releases on Beko, new, self-titled ready provides a pastiche of Korg synths, acoustic instruments, and even a “Tibetan singing dish.” That alone is sufficient to indicate that Lowlands — which, according to their Bandcamp webpage, paradoxically helps make its sounds “on a hill across from a city” — got its noise most honestly.
